My scientific interests primarily lie in the climatic changes that have characterized Earth during the Cenozoic (with a strong focus on the Quaternary) and how these changes have manifested themselves in different sedimentary archives. Recently, my research has focused on two important components of the climate system: the Arctic Ocean and the subtropical monsoon system. Although fundamentally different, both systems show similarities both in the way that climate signals are recorded and in the way these systems are connected to the global climate system.
I did my undergraduate studies at Stockholm University in Sweden, and after pursuing a PhD in paleoceanography and sedimentolgogy at Kiel University in Germany, I chose to do two postdocs in Taiwan. First at the Institute of Earth Sciences at Academia Sinica, and later at the National Taiwan University. |
During my time in Taiwan I expanded my expertise by working on planktonic foraminifera together with the very active Taiwanese paleoceanography group. Near the end of my time in Taiwan, I was awarded a 3-year adjunct assistant professorship from NSC to continue my studies on the Asian monsoon system. However, an attractive offer of a 5-year research fellowship grant from the Swedish Research Council brought me back to Stockholm University. While at Stockholm University, I participated in three icebreaker expedition to the Arctic Ocean where I collected sediment samples from the sea floor that will help me address the natural variability of the Arctic climate system. Before moving back to Taiwan to start my position as associate professor, I spent 8 month at the Alfred-Wegener-Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Germany. |
