I-I Lin is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, National Taiwan University. Her research expertise is in tropical cyclone-ocean interactions and the use of multiple remote sensing in air-sea physical/biogeochemical interactions. She obtained her B.Sc. degree from the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan, in 1989 and her Ph.D. degree in Remote Sensing from the University of Cambridge, Cambridge, England, in 1995. She is a pioneer in the field of typhoon-ocean interaction in the Western Pacific ocean and was the first to discover the association between warm ocean eddy and the sudden-intensification of super-typhoons over the western Pacific ocean. Her research on typhoon-ocean interaction has been highlighted by Nature, CNN, Associate Press, NASA, National Geography, and other media. She is also the recipient of Taiwan's "Ten Outstanding Young Women" Award, Outstanding research award from Taiwan's National Science Council, Excellence in teaching award from the National Taiwan University, and the American Geophysical Union's START young scientist award. |
